Is CrevioTap Safe?

Is CrevioTap Safe?

Have you ever paid for something by moving your phone close to the card reader?  That is  NFC (near–field communication) technology in action! The very same technology is used for our Creviotap cards – designed to guide your customers to leave a review in your Google Reviews and, therefore, increase your visibility with authentic ratings and feedback for your business growth. But how exactly does it work? What is the magic behind it, and how safe this actually is? Let’s break it down…

What is NFC and how does it work?

NFC transmits information, or in other words, communicates, between two electronic devices when they are very close to each other (4 centimetres or less). It is similar to a Bluetooth connection, however, NFC requires much less power than Bluetooth and provides faster connectivity opportunities - just tap the phone on the card to review!

For transmitting to happen, at least one of the devices needs to transmit the signal. There are two types of NFC devices – passive and active ones. Passive devices, just like our review cards, can only send information to other NFC devices and do not need a power source of their own. This means you don’t have to worry about charging these review cards. The active NFC devices, just like your phone or tablet, can both send and receive data.  When a smartphone (active device) comes near the card, a tiny electromagnetic induction between the active device and the passive device generates a small electric current that makes a path to send a signal that is stored in the NFC tag as an NFC data exchange record. This allows devices that tap the card to read the same programmed signal.

From technical standpoint, we are using NTAG215 tag for our cards, which allows multiple rewrites and can store very long URLs. They are compatible with both Android and iOS, and work instantly with smartphones with NFC technology (which are most smartphones nowadays).

Are Creviotap Cards safe?

When it comes to safety, NFC technology is safe since it only transmits signals at very close distance (4 cm or less). Moreover, each card can be locked, ensuring that only you - who knows the password - can update the link on your NFC card. Once your customer taps our card, they get a notification on their screen showcasing the link and by taping on that notification, they are instantly guided to your Google Review page. This card will only be able to guide your customers to the link what you have programmed without collecting any sensitive data. Set up is quick and easy - you can set it up easily through our website’s link generator or any other NFC writing app.

Final thoughts

Creviotap cards are easy to use without compromising user safety. They do not run out of battery and are easy to set up and maintain. Moreover, you can repurpose your Creviotap card for a different business activity since you have plenty of opportunities to rewrite the link that is set on your card. Once set up, the link shown for the user will always be the last one you have set up for the card.
